Just the FAQs
We've got answers!
Do you offer a guarantee?
Yes! We are so confident in this system, that if you are not completely amazed and 100% satisfied in the first lesson, the lesson is free! No questions asked!
Which Board & Train program is right for my dog?
The right program depends on your dog’s age, training history, and behavior. If your dog has significant anxiety, aggression, or reactivity, tell our Sterling team before enrolling so we can discuss whether the on-leash 3-Week Reactivity Board & Train or another program is appropriate.
Will my dog benefit from this training?
Training can help you teach practical skills such as walking on a loose leash, coming when called, and settling on a designated spot. Your trainer can help you decide which skills to work on first and show you how to practice them in your daily routine.
What is an e-collar and how does it work?
An e-collar is a remote-controlled training tool that can deliver electrical stimulation through contact points on the collar. The remote’s signal range describes how far it can communicate with the collar. Your dog’s response to a cue can still vary with distance and distractions.
Does every dog training program use an e-collar?
Training tools vary by program. Basic Marker Mastery™ uses rewards and a clicker, while some obedience and Board & Train packages include an e-collar. Ask your trainer which tools your program uses and how they introduce them based on your dog’s response.
Will my dog always have to wear the e-collar?
Your trainer can explain when to use the equipment included in your program and how to practice each skill after training. Follow local leash rules and use a physical leash where required or whenever the setting calls for one.
Where do we conduct these private sessions?
Contact our Sterling team to confirm where your private lessons will take place. We can explain the meeting options for your program and confirm whether in-home sessions are available for your address.
How much time per day do I need to train my dog?
The great thing about this training is that you don’t have to set a specific amount of time aside per day in order to train your dog! We will teach you how to incorporate this training into your daily routine.
How long will this training take?
The number of sessions depends on the program. Elite Obedience includes eight private lessons, with the first four covering basic obedience and the final four covering advanced skills. See Plans & Pricing for the session count and format of other programs.
At what age can we start e-collar training?
Generally, we do not start e-collar training on a dog until it is at least 5 months old.
What if I have a puppy that is not 5 months old?
Not a problem! We can still train your pup using the clicker/treat method! This will give your new pup a good foundation for basic obedience! Additionally, We can teach you how to house train your puppy. He/ she will learn how to let you know they need to go. So they don’t continue having accidents in the house.
What is clicker training?
A clicker is a small device that makes a distinct “click” noise. This is used to instantly mark the desired behavior. Then, it is immediately followed with a treat! This enables the dog to learn the commands much faster because you are instantly “marking” the correct behavior. In return, the dog knows it has not done what you are asking it to do until it hears the distinct “click.”
What if I have a small dog?
That is fine! E-Collar training works on a dog of ANY SIZE, ANY SHAPE, and ANY AGE (above 5 months).
