Frequently Asked Questions
Is my dog ready for advanced training?
Dogs entering advanced training should have a foundation in basic obedience. If your dog responds in quiet settings but becomes inconsistent around distractions, advanced training may be an appropriate next step. If foundational commands remain inconsistent, the team may recommend starting with a basic obedience program.
How long does advanced training take?
The timeline depends on the selected program. Elite Obedience includes eight private lessons that progress from basic to advanced commands. Board & Train programs provide daily immersive training over the period specified in the selected program. Continued progress depends on consistent owner practice after formal training.
What advanced commands will my dog learn?
Depending on the program, advanced skills may include extended-distance obedience, off-leash recall, off-leash heel, down from a distance, extended place, front, watch, through, and stand. Review the current program curriculum before enrolling because the included commands vary by program.
Can advanced training help with reactivity or aggression?
Dogs with reactivity, aggression, or significant anxiety may need a behavior-focused program rather than a standard advanced-obedience program. Training can help owners develop stronger control, communication, handling, and management strategies, but complete correction of serious aggression cannot be guaranteed.
Do you serve Centreville from the Sterling location?
Yes. Off Leash K9 Training, Loudoun County is based at 22034 Shaw Rd., Suite 105, Sterling, VA 20164, and serves Centreville and other Northern Virginia communities. Private-lesson locations, in-home availability, and scheduling depend on the selected program.
What equipment is used in advanced training programs?
Equipment varies by program. Elite Obedience includes an e-collar and a 15-foot leash, while the 2-Week Board & Train includes an e-collar. Basic Marker Mastery uses reward-based training and includes a clicker, slip lead, and 15-foot leash. Review the selected program’s current description to confirm its equipment and methods.
What happens after advanced training ends?
Private-lesson clients should continue practicing the skills covered during their sessions. Qualifying Board & Train programs include an owner transfer session explaining the commands, equipment, and handling process. Some adult Board & Train programs also include lifetime refresher support. Confirm the support included with your selected program.
